Koinobori (fish windsocks) are flown for Children’s Day to express wishes for strength and perseverance for our keiki. Friends of Lili`uokalani Gardens revived the practice of flying koinobori in the Waiakea peninsula in 2017. More than 300 windsocks will be attached to bamboo poles and then will be installed on utility poles along Banyan Drive starting on Monday, April 27. If you would like to help with this project, please meet at the Moku Ola parking lot on Monday at 9:00 a.m. The koinobori will remain throughout Golden Week and will be taken down at the end of Children’s Day on Tuesday, May 5.
The display used to concentrate on the Moku Ola bridge with more than 30 poles attached to the railings. Because of the bridge collapse, koinobori will be placed elsewhere on the peninsula including at every business and hotel from Suisan Fish Market to Ponds Restaurant.
